DIY Gift Wrap. Um…yes, please. I love gift wrap and creating the outside of the gifts in a very handmade and pretty way.
Heidi Swapp has recently come out with a beautiful collection of DIY Gift Wrap that includes gift paper with stamps and paint and ink. Plus lots of tags and and embellishments to make the gift very pretty and very give-away-able.
Today I want to share a few tips on how to paint a heart stamped image on gift paper, and then I will add finishing touches with trim and tags and more stamps.
To begin, measure out the paper to the size of the gift before you start to stamp the paper. Just makes it easier to work with a smaller swatch of paper.
Stamp a pattern on the wrap paper. I really like how sheer the Gold Paint goes on the White Paper. It makes the for a really pretty heart image.
When creating my pattern on the paper, I try and place the stamp in the same position to the other stamped images every time. See in this example…the bottom curve of the stamp sits above and in between the heart image below. I try to get it positioned the same every time for an even pattern.
The foam stamp has an arrow to help point straight up. It is on the clear plastic part right above the handle. Do you see it? It’s very useful as a guide to line up the stamp right where you want it to go.
Once the pattern is complete on the paper, and the paint is fully dry, it’s time to wrap the gift!
The Gift Wrap Paper has great weight and opacity. What’s under the wrap stays nice and concealed even with the white paper.
Now to complete the gift.
The DIY Gift Wrap collection includes a wonderful selection of trim. I am sort of liking that sequin.
I wrapped a swatch of the gold sequin trim around the box and then wrapped that with tulle. Layers. Ya gotta have layers. A tulle bow is tied on top.
Place a gold dipped feather amongst the tulle. Stamp JOY in white on a kraft tag. Tie tag around tulle.
And ta dah! A DIY Gift painted and stamped and handmade for that very, very special someone.
