So….who’s excited for a little DIY time?

If you have not yet heard the news, Heidi Swapp has just released an absolutely GORGEOUS NEW collection exclusive to Michaels called Gallery Wall.  It is FILLED with so many amazing things that will take your walls and love for all things “DIY” to a whole new level.

Because it is full of so many wonderful new products that work brilliantly together, I thought a little basic tutorial breakdown was in order.

Let’s talk NEW 12″ (yes, I said 12″…SO fabulous) Marquee Love Letters, Shapes AND Numbers and Distress Paint Kits.

The idea behind these distress kits is that you are now able to transform projects into vintage, antique inspired looks.  So fun, right?!?  There are many different ways you can use these distress kits, but today I want to show you just how wonderful they are when applied specifically to Marquee Love.

Inside the kit, you will find the following: 2 paints (1 dark shade, 1 light shade), a foam brush, a coarse bristle paint brush and a small ink pad.  These products all magically work together to achieve stunning vintage effects.  The above kit (and the one I will be demoing in today’s post) is the Faux Rust Kit.

So, when you unpackage your Marquee Love shape it comes with the following pieces.  The marquee shape, a light strand and the bulbs.

Now as awesome as these are left even white, we are going to transform ours today into a vintage, rustic inspired letter E.

Let’s do this!

I have created a video demonstration showcasing the process from start to finish.

Let’s take a look:

So to summarize:

Step 1: Coat your Marquee shape with dark paint first.  Allow to fully dry.

Step 2: Add the lighter paint on top of the Marquee shape with the coarse bristle brush.  Remember there is no set way or rule in applying this coat.  Have fun! Be creative!  Use the coarse brush in any way you want to achieve your desired look.
