Minc It Monday | Tissue Paper

Add Foil to Your Tissue Paper to Dress Up Your Gifts! Maggie Massey for Heidi Swapp

Happy Monday, everyone!

Maggie here with another installment of Minc It Monday!

This week, I’m showing you one way to take your gift wrap to a whole ‘nother level…with foiled tissue paper!

All you’ll need is what’s shown above…

  • Some patterned paper – I’m using some from the Carousel Collection by Maggie Holmes for Crate Paper
  • The WeR Memory Keepers Gift Box Punch Board
  • some tissue paper – I’m using white, but you can use whatever you’d like!
  • some Minc Reactive paint & a sponge brush
  • the foil color of your choice – I’m using Pink/Gold Ombré
  • and, of course, your Minc Foil Applicating Machine!

To start, create your box using your Gift Box Punch Board.

Not familiar with how these amazing punch boards work? Take a look at the video below and you’ll see just how easy it is to create darling, custom gift boxes…with nothing more than the punch board, a little adhesive and some patterned paper!

Now it’s time to add some Minc Reactive Paint to your tissue paper.

Squeeze out some of the Paint onto a craft mat…and add a little to your sponge brush.

Using light (but firm) strokes, add the paint to the ends of your tissue paper.

I usually do only 2 opposite sides of the paper…that’s really more than enough to get the foiled effect once the paper is crumpled up in your gift box.

Work quickly so that the paint doesn’t dry and adhere the paper to the craft mat. I like to lift my paper up a few times while I’m going across the edge to make sure it’s not sticking to the mat.

Once you’ve added your paint, let it dry. I like to lay my tissue paper out on a flat surface or over one of the rods on our laundry rack – but make sure it’s not touching anything else! The paint is very sticky and will grab on to whatever it’s near!

Once the paint is COMPLETELY dry, fold your tissue paper in half, and then in half again, so that all of the painted sides are going the same way.

*I know it’s hard to see, but in my photo above, the painted edges are all on the right – towards the fold of the transfer folder…*

Place your paper in your Minc transfer folder.

Then layer up your paper/foil so that you can foil the entire piece at one time.

Here’s how the “layers” should be:

  • Foil – color/shiny side DOWN
  • Tissue Paper
  • Tissue Paper
  • Foil – color/shiny side UP
  • Foil – color/shiny side DOWN
  • Tissue Paper
  • Tissue Paper
  • Foil – color/shiny side UP

You’ll want to make sure you cover the entire painted area with your foil strips.

Failure to do that may result in the paper sticking to itself/the foil/the transfer folder, etc. It’s a mess…(smile).

Now, close your transfer paper over all the layers and run through your Minc at heat setting 3.

Once the folder has made its way through your machine, GENTLY unfold your tissue paper and remove the (now used) strips of foil.

You’ll see that the foil has transferred to all the painted areas…and it looks SO COOL!

Tuck your newly-foiled tissue paper into your box…and add your gift!

And done!

So lovely, right?!

I’m always looking for new ways to make the gifts I give look pretty…and this is one way I’ll come back to again & again!

Thank you so much for stopping by!
