Today I am excited to talk Storyline with you all.
Seriously….when you find a system that “works”…you just have to celebrate it!
For so long, I have always had intentions and big plans for certain projects. But…like usual a lot of them just seemed to fall through the cracks and never actually happen. Of course there are many reasons to this madness, but knowing what I know now…I think I was just making things TOO HARD! These days who has time for complexity? It is just such an unnecessary distraction to our productivity and it can be a very defeating and discouraging feeling.
Ever since I have started working with Heidi Swapp’s new memory keeping system Storyline, I have felt so energized and motivated and HAPPY about my memory keeping and the direction it is going. Again…they key here is SIMPLICITY, and Storyline is just that.
Storyline is the way I will be documenting my son’s 3rd year. My plan for this album is VERY simple and doable. ONE layout/spread a month. That is IT. ONE. I am not going to worry about the fact that I am not scrapping every photo. I am not going to worry that I am not doing “enough”. I am not going to worry about every little technique/embellishment/product I own. I am just going to pick a photo from the month, place it in my album, add in my journaling/deck of days and DONE. It makes me excited to know that by the end of his 3rd year I will have an entire collection of random moments/memories from each month that I completed! What a fulfilling feeling….and in the end, SUCH a treasure.
Now, in order for this to work I have developed some tips and tricks to make things super simple and doable for myself. I am done feeling defeated by never feeling I have enough time! Or that what I am doing isn’t creative enough or on trend. The key here is focusing on the photos and the story.
Today, I want to share how I created my April Storyline page/entry with you and just what my process is. I am keeping it super consistent, doing the same thing each month to achieve my monthly page goal. The only thing I may vary up each month is the amount and size of photos I am going to use on my page.
For this month, I began by printing off 6 3×3 photos off of my computer. I wanted to use multiple photos on this page. However, instead of fussing about cutting out each one individually (and taking up more time), I simply trimmed them out keeping their grid.
I now have one large photo of my small photos ready to be adhered onto my base page. Truly I think with any sort of memory keeping this is the hardest part. Printing the photos. But now that it is already done! And literally only took me 3 minutes from start to finish. I honestly think for me personally sometimes I spend WAY too much time thinking about it and trying to psych myself out of it…than just going for it and DOING it. Anyone relate?!?
Now for the second step…adhere my photos!
Once my photos are placed on the page it’s time to add the fun extras!
Every Storyline layout of mine will have these 3 components:
- Deck of Days card
2. Date Stickers
3. Journaling Spot/Additional Sticker Embellishment (found in the Journaling sticker kit)
I am not adding any more additional product onto my pages within this album. I mean, I very well could but for me that is just making it more complicated than I want it to be. I want to stick to the Storyline system, and by doing so, it has actually really helped me to stay committed and consistent in completing my monthly page. At the end of the day, the key is to find a system that works for you and stick with it!
So as you can see I added the date stickers onto the corner of my page filling in the prompt. Here I just placed the month and the year but you can always add in your exact date too.
Next, I add my journaling spot, deck of days card and sticker embellishments.
Once I have them placed where I want them, it’s time to record the story.
April’s story reads:
“These are some of my latest favourite photos of my little Magoo just being his silly self. I wanted a few new pictures so for 5 minutes I grabbed out my DSLR and told Madix to just start playing and jump on my bed in his cute little underwear. There is something so sweet about a little ones bare skin. These are the moments and memories that take my breath away. That are so priceless in this life. It marvels me how much this little boy makes me feel the greatest love in the world”. ~Age: 3 years~
I know that these little stories and details will be the ones I will be MOST thankful for years down the road. They are those little “nuggets” of life that within that moment just make it all so amazing. Sure, the big achievements and milestones are amazing too…but there is just something about these little moments that I sure do love the most.
I really encourage you to check out Storyline if you have not yet done so. It truly is an amazing system that is all about getting those priceless stories told. It is now available at Michaels Stores and you can check out the entire collection here. 🙂
