Storyline | Using a Sketch

Add your own style while creating from a sketch! :: Heidi Swapp Storyline | Maggie Massey for Heidi Swapp

Last week, my girl, Jamie Pate, shared a fantastic post on how to use one of Heidi’s new Storyline e-book*** sketches to create two different layouts in no time flat! ***see the bottom of this post to get your own copy of the e-book

Today, I’m here to share a layout I created using another of Heidi’s sketches…but in a slightly different way.

Let’s start with the e-book sketch I used…here it is:

Using sketches, for me, is one of my go-to methods when I’m short on either time or creativity…or both.

Sometimes I’ll follow a sketch exactly…and other times I’ll use it mainly as a jumping-off point…just to get started.

That’s what I did with this layout.

I had four 3×4 photos I wanted to scrap on the same page…so I looked through the e-book to find a layout that used something similar.

I arranged my photos according to the sketch, and then added a few photo corners & decorative pieces from the Sticker Embellishment kits in roughly the same places Heidi did.

Next, I used a large circle, cut from a piece of cardstock, as a stencil to create some journaling spots on my page.

I’ve been doing something similar on most of my Storyline pages & I kinda love love LOVE how they look!

I used a few Mermaid Markers from the Jane Davenport Collection (available at Michaels) to fill in part of my circles…and then I added my journaling.

A few drops of mist and my page is done!

Whether you follow a sketch exactly, or change it up to suit your liking, is up to you!

Try turning your sketch to create “new sketches” like Jamie did with one of her layouts, or add your own style with a mix of embellishments.

Challenge yourself to use the same sketch in a number of different ways!

There’s really no end to how you can use a sketch to help spark your creativity…
