This summer I was determined to get outside. And outside is just where this family has been. You see, they say you have 18 summers with your kids. This is the 18th summer of my second child. The first one has left the nest. And now child number 2 has a job and will be attending college classes this fall. Hang on…let me get a tissue. And so…I headed into this summer with the intent of making more than the usual vacation memories. I wanted us to get out into the beautiful state often and explore and discover. And that is what we have been doing. We have hiked new venues almost every week. And of course…that needs a journal to keep track of it all.
And so I needed a journal. Heidi’s Minc Collection includes a journal cover and insert. The journal is canvas covered and ready to be made pretty with all things mix media. The inserts fit inside the cover. For my summer journal, I am using the White Insert.
The fun thing about this journal is that the insert is separate making it Minc Reactive Medium friendly. The mediums can be added inside and then foiled with the Minc Machine.
Let’s start at the beginning. The white canvas is just begging to be prettied. First I added a thin coat of gesso. Sweet Mint Color Shine + white acrylic paint was mixed together and painted on the cover. The ‘enjoy’ word is part of the Minc Enjoy Life Kit. It is attached with the paint. I added a charm to the elastic closure relaying that this journal is all about fun.
Inside the canvas cover I have already slipped in the White Insert. That page is first layered with more of the Color Shine + acrylic paint mix. Next I painted through a stencil with the Reactive Paint. Then some splurts (yep…it’s a word) of Reactive Mist were sprayed on the page. This was ran through the Minc Machine with Silver Reactive Foil.
Using one of the tags from the Lamination Color Tags I added the word ‘summer’ with the Minc Toner Pen and Alpha Tracing Template. Foiled with that oh so fabulous Teal and Silver Foil and this journal is ready to go.
Next page is where the heart of this journal resides and lots of photos too.
On the left side I created a very interactive page. The ‘enjoy the little things’ tag is also from the Enjoy Life Kit. It can be Minc’d if desired. A score was added just below the circle so it could be flipped up.
The tag flips up to reveal a 4×4 image underneath. Using the Fuse Tool, I created a 4×4 pocket from a 6×4 Photo Sleeve. This is how all my photos will be added to this journal.
Underneath the photo is a space to document this particular hike. You can see the background is made up of more Color Shine+paint as well as Sweet Mint splatters.
A cascade of photo pockets are attached to the next page. There are about 14 photos on this one spread. I love that ! I love getting all these memories in here like this. Makes me so happy!!!
There is one more hike in this journal so far. And it follows the same way I did the previous 2-page spread.
At the end of this hike’s photo cascade, I added texture by mixing Sweet Mint Color Shine with texture paste. It is layed over one of the Minc stencils and allowed to dry. A ‘beautiful’ tag from the Lamination Black Tags (they are awesome even if you don’t laminate them!) is foiled and added to the page. Because…well this is just all so beautiful to me.
The opposite page is stenciled with more Color Shine plus I added some Art Ink to an Art Screen there on the corner and then foiled with the Teal and Silver Foil. The document die cut is painted with the Reactive Paint and also foiled.
Lift the tag and another photo is revealed plus a bit of journaling.
Whew…how’s that for some Journal Page inspiration. This journal is so perfect for an art journal, or turn it into a photo mini album like I did and still have fun adding Minc Reactive Mediums to your pages. If you like what I shared here, I present even more ideas using all the Minc Reactive Mediums plus different surfaces over at Big Pictures Classes. My class, Foiled Tag Album, is full of fun and creative ideas to make the most out of this fabulous Minc Collection. Hope you will check it out.
