Stephen Covey is quoted as saying, “The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.” I appreciate his words and am always in the process of refining them in my own life.
Hello, my name is Jamie Pate, and I am a planner girl. Yep. That’s me. Since early in high school, I have always been planning in a binder or calendar or journal at some level or another. It may go with that perfectionistic self. Or maybe it’s just the need to check the box. But I’m good with that. And so a planning I will go.
And then…when the planner is a pretty planner??? Well, then I’m all in.
Today I simply want to share with you my working planner. It may more appropriately be called a ‘life planner’. Because this personal planner from the Memory Keeping collection found at Michaels Stores is where all my life stuff is found. This is my brain. While my Memory Planner is a more personal-slow-the-blur-recording-memory-in-real-life kind of planner, this smaller planner is where all the priorities of my life as mom, wife, manager of my home, etc, gets found.
The Personal Planner in Pink is a smaller size planner than the large Memory Planner. This little book fits perfectly in my bag and goes with me most days with all my errands and to-do list included. It’s formatted just like the larger planners with pockets for all the extras, plus a pen holder which is perfect for me. Not that I lose my pens non-stop or anything.
There are 12-monthly dividers all gold-foiled with upbeat messages. Focus on the good just goes without saying. Not only do I like my planners to work hard for me, I like them to talk to me in an inspiring manner. The dividers have that covered.
Right inside the monthly divider is what I deem to be my dashboard. The planner includes a pocket page. I use these pages for photos and more encouraging words. Inserted here are Gold Foil Pocket Cards from the Memory Planner collection. Again, more encouraging words that I need to have in my vision all the time.
Found in any of my planners are photos. Why didn’t I think of this in my early days of planner love?It may seem really simple, but it is so great to have these photos with me and protected in their pockets. It’s the little things that go a long way with this planner girl.
The next page is the month calendar spread. So…I’m old fashion. While I love my iPhone and the ease of use of a calendar, I also really really like to be able to write down my schedule and priorities in one place like this and see it all. So this page is super important to me. Because this is my ‘life planner’ this is where is found our family schedule and appointments and all the events we are to be aware of for the month.
The rest of the planner is made up of these weekly pages. This is the heart of my working planner. I put appointment specifics and to-do lists and where I am suppose to be when.
I attempt to block schedule, and that is how this space mostly gets used. And this is what we would call the brain. Sheesh…if I ever lose this planner…I am sunk.
While this planner is more work related and not a space for the creative quite as much, I tend to keep it straightforward and utilitarian. However, stamps will be found here quite regularly. The Memory Keeping Kit has this great stamp set. I especially love the bullet points + lines. That is a work horse for me for sure. I use that one all the time. I like to headline my weeks with what HAS to be done. This stamp helps me highlight those points.
This planner can be found with extra inserts for extra lists and notes. I like to use the Designer Paper Pad from the Memory Planner collection. They fit this personal size perfectly, and give me ample space to add whatever it is that I need to have included right here.
So here’s the thing…we all have lives. We all have to do lists and errands and appointments. We all got stuff. We might as well be happy and make it all pretty in gorgeous planners like this Pink Personal Planner. Life is life. But we have a choice as to how we go about it. I choose to push through the mundane and make it beautiful. I choose to make my own happiness even with all my responsibilities. How about you?
