In these parts school starts really soon. Like in two weeks soon. Ugh…I KNOW!!! Trust me, I have let the school board know about my displeasure to cutting the summer short. And since it seems they won’t listen to me, I shall embrace the school year in my own way. Creatively.
I began to play around with some ideas for dressing up my daughter’s desk in her new room. The intent is for the space to be inspiring and uplifting and full of good vibe. What do you think? I think it turned out pretty fun. Not only does it look fun, but it was fun discovering ways to use the Gallery Wall Collection found at Michaels to make this space all things special. Let me take you on a tour.
First, of course, as with all things, I started with the Lightbox. This version is wrapped in the Mint Gingham Tape. Sort of crushing on this color lately. It’s just so full of happy. I wanted the message to be encouraging. Of course the girl needs to STUDY. And she is a 7th grader going to school with other 7th grade girls…so the words BE KIND cannot be said enough…if you know what I mean. And LOVE WELL is a theme in our home this summer. So it belonged. The Lightbox is a great way to convey messages of good to our kids and others.
Next I dressed up a plain old tin can for a pencil holder. Poor girl does not even have a pencil holder in her room yet. This one is just wrapped with the thin black and white pattern paper from the Decorative Paper pad. Super simple. Super recyclable.
I took to dressing up the pencils in said pencil holder with washi tape from the collection. Talk about easy. Just trim off a piece of tape as long as the pencil, and wrap. And how cute are those? I bet she won’t even use them cause they’re so cute.
I love clipboards. The Clipboard Pack includes 3 clipboards. I took a small one and covered with Decorative Paper. And then for more encouraging words, just slipped one of the gold foil Gallery Wall Prints onto it. Sits on a little easel and makes a person just smile.
Another fun way to make pretty desktop stuff is to wrap books with the Decorative Paper. Or just add one of the Decorative Tapes to the spine.
Don’t forget to dress up a space with a Muslin Banner. You don’t even have to add anything to it. It’s pretty just like it is. And festive. And a homework desk sure needs all those things.
The Metal Plaque…pretty sure I couldn’t have enough of these. It’s a great space to add magnets and clips and help your student manage academic life. Or just put photos of their favorite people on.
A last suggestion I have for you today is to add a Marquee Love letter to the desk. I kept this super super easy and did not even dress up the letter. I liked it white with the vibe of the other desktop elements. But those pink faceted lights…they made the perfect addition to that Marquee.
So here’s my suggestion…if there is an upcoming (read: looming) event coming up in your life, embrace it. Make it pretty. Put Gallery Wall to work to make happy your life. You won’t regret it.
