They say the unexamined life is a life not worth living. And perhaps that is why I am inundated with journals of all sorts of size and purpose that I am constantly reflecting in. This may have been Socrates statement regarding death, but I think I shall turn it instead toward everyday life and how it’s played out on the daily.
And gosh darn it if Heidi Swapp doesn’t make keeping a journal just simply beautiful once again. Magnolia Jane is in the house today. Most specifically the DIY Notebook Covers plus all the beautiful items that can go in between those covers. Today I will share a recent journal I put together using those Covers plus Inserts and DIY Notebook Tabs and more.
What I am presenting today is how I used the Magnolia Jane DIY Covers as my journal for my One Little Word.
This year I am taking a One Little Word class given by Ali Edwards. As there are prompts and creative exercises that go with this class all year long, a journal that I could add to through the months is what I needed to keep my word visual and to reflect and respond to my word.
The Magnolia Jane Collection includes DIY Notebook Wire that go with the DIY Covers. Binding wires would work perfect with what I had in mind because there is going to be plenty of elements I would need to add to this book as well as alter to make it all work.
For instance, the DIY Notebook Tabs: I cut them down to about 3 1/2-inches wide. Different widths of add-ins creates great interest in this or any album. The tabs were then hole-punched with the Cinch so they could be bound with the Wire Binding.
The Fuse Tool became useful in the creation of this journal. The We R Memory Keepers Fuse Collection includes Photo Pockets of differing dimensions. A 3×4-inch pocket is seen in the above image. It was added to the Wire binding by first punching holes with the We R Memory Keepers Heidi Swapp Cinch Machine, just as all the pieces added to this book will be.
The Fuse Tool also came in handy to customize pocket page protectors.
This pocket in the above image started as 2-6×4-inch pockets. I ‘Fused’ it in half to create 4-3×4 pockets. To fit inside the journal they just fold inside and become a fun and interesting interactive element.
Have you seen the Specialty Gold Stripe Paper? It’s a beautiful gold foil and vellum stripe. I added a section of this paper to my album just because pretty.
The black stripe divider is one of 5 dividers that are part of the DIY Notebook Tabs. This one was trimmed down also. I added a kraft ephemera tag for the month, and that lovely Gold Foil ‘hello’. I love how this book is coming together plus is so very useful at the same time.
Throughout this OLW album I will continue to utilize pocket pages and the Cinch to add cards and photos.
Notice the black and white strip of paper on the edge of this pocket page?
I felt the plastic of the pocket page needed some reinforcement when it was punched with the Cinch. I just trimmed out a piece of Magnolia Jane pattern paper to about 1/2-inch in width. I added a bit of adhesive and adhered to the edge before it was punched.
I love products with possibility. I love diy elements that I can pull together in my own way and make a DIY Notebook like this work for exactly what I need.
Magnolia Jane is a beautiful collection of vintage plus modern patterns and elements to inspire memory keeping, card making, and even journal creating. The pieces work together beautifully to come together in meaningful, useful, and needful ways.
Even if that need is for One Little Word.
