Happiest Friday everyone!
I am SO happy it is Friday…which means not only is the official kick off to the weekend here….but it is none other than National Scrapbook Day Weekend! I love this day SO much.
Scrapbooking is definitely an art form that deserves to be recognized. I began scrapbooking way back when…about 2002 to be exact. Sigh…where has the time gone?!? I started when I was in university, although since I could walk I have always been obsessed with ANYTHING paper related. Crayons, markers, colouring, cute pencil bags, stickers….the list goes on and on! It truly was and is still in my blood. The obsession runs deep; and shows NO signs of stopping. Ha! Anyone with me?!?
However, the actual “scrapbooking” side of me came out (as I mentioned above) when I was in University. Picture a very stressed out student away from family and the home I grew up in just trying to “figure it all out”… all the while finding therapy and healing through art.
That was (and still very much is) ME.
However now I am just a very stressed out newbie chronic worrying momma trying to figure this ‘parenthood’ thing out! LOL. I think looking back now University life was MUCH MUCH easier! 😉
That being said, I still very much owe a lot of healing power and therapy to this craft, hobby and lifestyle. Documenting, story-telling, creating and capturing these frozen moments in time is truly what keeps me sane. I find SO much happiness here. So much positive energy to keep me going…even through tired eyes and with little me time ever available.
You can often find me sneaking away into my craft space after the kids are in bed. Whether it be for 10 minutes, 20 minutes…maybe sometimes even an hour if I am lucky! No matter how long I do get, it is always a great way to wrap up and end a busy non stop day. Sometimes I don’t even get to create…maybe just look at supplies and organize a few things. Whatever it is, scrapbooking and paper crafting is THE BEST.
With it being National Scrapbook Day this weekend, and with Mother’s Day coming up as well, I was inspired to try out one of the brand new Storyline Mini Albums to put together the beginnings of a little ‘brag book’ for myself. A book to house some of my favourite photos of me with my kids. A home for some of my favourite stories and #mommythoughts as I like to call them. Let’s be honest…there are SO many stories to tell!
I used this super cute black and white album along with some of the brand new exclusive Storyline kits you can find ONLY at select JoAnn stores. I mean, you do not even know how excited I was to see these Boy and Girl Deck of Days Kits! Yes!
I also loved using these photo sticker sheets for this project. These photo sticker sheets are part of the Memory Planner collection, but they work AMAZING with Storyline as well. I love how they speed up my ability to scrapbook my photos because once I print my photos out on these templates I can simply peel and stick. Plus they come in super cute sizes which is a lot of fun to add into my album.
Watch below to see a little ‘unboxing’ and up close and personal look at not only these Deck of Days kits but some of the other amazing goodies you will find at JoAnn which I used to compile my mini album with. I also share a walk through of my mini Storyline album thus far. Note that it is still a “work in progress”…with many more photos to add and stories to be told…but so far I am LOVING how it is coming together.
Telling our story does not have to be complex, time consuming or overwhelming. In fact, it is just more about telling and noting all those little details that serve to ‘bring us back’ to a certain moment in time. I love telling all the little stories. To me they are like little time machines that once I read back what I wrote I can instantly remember that moment, event and memory.
I hope that this weekend is one that allows you to carve out some creative time for you. To maybe start a new project, or finish one that has been set to the side for awhile. To print some photos out, tell a story or two. Just enjoy the creative process!
Happy National Scrapbook Day everyone!
